BOXED WARNING: Antidepressants increase suicide risk in children, adolescents, and young adults. Close monitoring is essential, particularly during initial treatment phases. | - Risk of serotonin syndrome when combined with MAOIs, triptans, or other serotonergic agents - May increase bleeding risk, especially with NSAIDs or anticoagulants - Can cause hyponatremia (dangerously low sodium levels) - Discontinuation symptoms possible; gradual dose reduction recommended - May worsen depression or trigger suicidal thoughts initially
"Sertraline hydrochloride tablets are indicated for the treatment of major depressive disorder in adults" and for premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) in adults. Not approved for pediatric depression.
