BOXED WARNING: "RISKS FROM CONCOMITANT USE WITH OPIOIDS; ABUSE, MISUSE, AND ADDICTION; and DEPENDENCE AND WITHDRAWAL REACTIONS." "Concomitant use of benzodiazepines and opioids may result in profound sedation, respiratory depression, coma, and death." "The use of benzodiazepines, including Restoril, exposes users to risks of abuse, misuse, and addiction, which can lead to overdose or death." Continued use "may lead to clinically significant physical dependence," and "abrupt discontinuation or rapid dosage reduction...may precipitate acute withdrawal reactions, which can be life-threatening." Also warns of additive CNS depression with alcohol and other sedatives, and complex behaviors such as "sleep-driving."

"Restoril (temazepam) is indicated for the short-term treatment of insomnia (generally 7 to 10 days)," characterized by difficulty falling asleep, frequent nocturnal awakenings, and/or early morning awakenings.
