Uses and warnings

No boxed warning, but the label carries a special cardiovascular warning based on the University Group Diabetes Program (UGDP) study, noting that oral hypoglycemic drugs have been associated with increased cardiovascular mortality compared with diet alone or diet plus insulin. Contraindicated in patients with "known hypersensitivity or allergy to the drug," "diabetic ketoacidosis, with or without coma," "type I diabetes mellitus," and with concurrent bosentan use. Key precautions include risk of severe hypoglycemia (especially in elderly or renally/hepatically impaired patients), secondary treatment failure over time, and hemolytic anemia in patients with G6PD deficiency.

Glyburide tablets is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
