Uses and warnings

No boxed warning. Contraindicated with "hypersensitivity to benztropine mesylate tablets" and in children under three years of age. The label warns the drug "may impair mental and/or physical abilities required for performance of hazardous tasks, such as operating machinery or driving," and that combining it with phenothiazines or antidepressants raises risk of "paralytic ileus, hyperthermia and heat stroke." Anhidrosis and fatal hyperthermia are possible, especially in hot weather.
