Uses and warnings

No boxed warning. "Meclizine hydrochloride tablets are contraindicated in patients with a hypersensitivity to meclizine or any of the inactive ingredients." Patients should be "warned of this possibility [drowsiness] and cautioned against driving a car or operating dangerous machinery," and the label advises avoiding alcoholic beverages while taking meclizine. It should be used cautiously in patients with asthma, glaucoma, or prostatic enlargement because of anticholinergic-like effects.

"Meclizine hydrochloride tablets are indicated for the treatment of vertigo associated with diseases affecting the vestibular system in adults," typically dosed at 25 mg to 100 mg daily in divided doses.
