Uses and warnings

Major Warning: "SERIOUS AND OCCASIONALLY FATAL HYPERSENSITIVITY (ANAPHYLACTIC) REACTIONS HAVE BEEN REPORTED" in patients taking penicillin therapy, particularly those with prior penicillin hypersensitivity. Anaphylaxis requires immediate emergency treatment with epinephrine. Additional warnings include pseudomembranous colitis risk (potentially life-threatening) and cross-reactivity concerns with cephalosporins in penicillin-allergic patients.

Amoxicillin treats infections caused by susceptible bacteria, including ear/nose/throat infections, genitourinary tract infections, skin infections, lower respiratory tract infections, and acute uncomplicated gonorrhea. It's also indicated for H. pylori eradication to reduce duodenal ulcer recurrence risk when combined with other medications.
